Scholarship

 The La Pine Lodgepole Dodgers award a scholarship each year to a deserving La Pine High School Senior. An application must be submitted to the Scholarship committee who then reviews all the entries and makes a selection based on selected criteria.
 
 
This year's recipient for the 2022 La Pine Lodgepole Dodgers Scholarship is Makenzie Osborne.  Makenzie is planning to attend the University of Idaho and major in Biochemistry this fall.  Makenzie excelled in her studies during her high school years and has a 4.03 GPA and has a long list of awards and achievements.  She was on the honor roll all semesters for the 2018-2022 years and a National Honor Society member for the 2019- 2022.  She held the office of President for the National Honor Society for the years 2020-2022.  Makenzie played Second Team All-League Softball for the 2019 year and played First Team All-League for the 2021 year.  She also played Second Team All-League Soccer for the 2021 year.  Even participating in all these activities, she was the Student Body Vice President from 2019 to 2020.  We congratulate Makenzie and wish her the very best in the coming years.  



 
Congratulations to Lucas Williams who was selected to receive the second John and Peggy Spieger Scholarship Award.  He will be attending Oregon State University Cascades and Central Oregon Community College.  Lucas plans to Major in Biology and Physical Therapy.  He has Lettered in Varsity Football all 4 years, was a peer math tutor, a member of the Interact Club, a Volunteer Assistant coach for football and wrestling and a Special Olympics peer mentor.  He was a member of the Cultural Exploration Club an the Interact Club.  His community service includes Christmas Charity Baskets for the Bend Elks Club, Habitat for Humanity, Ghost Tree Charity Fundraiser and a Special Olympics Peer Mentor Program, Youth Football Camps Volunteer Coaching Assistant, Pilot Butte Middle School Wrestling Volunteer Assistant Coach and Peer Mathematics Tutor.  He has been outstanding in sports during his High School Years.  He is a 3 time Mountain Valley Conference Football and Wrestling All-Academic Team, Mountain Valley Conference Wrestling All Conference Award, 3 time Varsity Letter in Football, Wrestling, Rugby and Academics each year.  He has been the MVHS Student of the Month, 2 time COCC Mathematics Competitor, MVHS Department Award in Social Studies and Foreign Language, 2021 All City Center and Linebacker and was nominated for the NNF Award.  During his high school years he was employed by the Blue Moon Ranch as a Farm Hand.  Lucas is a hard working young man and we are proud to be able to give this scholarship to him to help further his future.  We wish him the best.
 
 
Congratulations to Ella Ramsey our 2021 winner of the John and Peggy Spieger Scholarship.  This is our first year of giving this Scholarship and we are honored to give it to such a deserving young lady.  Ella has chosen to study engineering at Oregon State University, with a minor in Spanish and/or business.  She was a very active student in school in sports having lettered in Varisty Track and Field and Soccer Awards four years in a row for each sport, Student of the Month for 2019 and 2020 an Oregon DECA Sports and Entertainment Marketing Event placing 2nd for 2020 and 4th place for 2021.  She also played competitive club soccer for 6 years.  She has participated in community service by volunteering at Solve Volunteer Cleanups (forest, roads, etc), packaged Army Blessing Boxes, KidsWorks After School Program and SBHS Friends of Freshman Program.  We wish her great success in her future endeavours and wish her the best of luck.
 
 
Our 2021 Scholarship recipient this year is Courtney Gutherie,  She is enrolled in Boise State University and plans to work toward a Nursing Degree. Courtney has been very active in community services such as blood drives, little league umpire, participant in the Big Tree Tournament, helped at Volleyball camp, etc.  She  has played softball, soccer and volleyball.  Courntey was in the National Honor Society, a member of AVID and in a Peer Educator Internship.  Courtney is following her dream by going to Boise State University to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse.  This is a noble profession and we are proud we could give this scholarship to her to help her move toward her life goal.  Best of Luck on your journey and we wish you well.
 
Our 2020 Scholarship recipient this year is Austin McKittrick.  He is enrolled in Lane Community College for 2 years and planning to transfer to University of Oregon.  He is majoring in Sports Broadcasting and hoping to make this his career.  Austin is passionate about sports and that is why he is pursuing this.  Austin has been on the honor roll for all 4 years at La  Pine High School, Student Body President, All State Baseball Player, All league Football Player, Scholar Athlete.  He was the Varsity Captain for Football and Baseball for the past 2 years.  Austin is an excellent student.  He worked 20 hours a week at Coach's Restaurant in La Pine during his off hours.  Austin has given over 200 hours of community service, serving as a Youth Baseball Coach, being an ump for Little League on weekends as well as the Davey Taylor event.  He has also volunteered every year for the Cascade Relay.  Austin is very active in our community and has faced many challenges in his life.  He is a person who gives back.  He is very family orientated and a wonderful young man.  We are proud of his accomplishment and wish him the best of luck in the future.

 

The 2019 Scholarship winner is Ashlyn Johnson.  She is enrolled in Oregon State University and is pursuing a career in veterinary medicine.  Ashlyn is taking Animal Sciences classes and Orientation to Animal and Rangeland classes.  Ashlyn was the 2018 La Pine Rodeo Queen, she was on the Honor Roll, a Scholar Athlete and received the President's Education Award in 2017.  She also received an Outstanding Student Award and multiple awards in 4-H and the Oregon High School Equestrian Team.  Ashlyn volunteered many hours in the community doing many wonderful things.  She helped with the La Pine Christmas Baskets, she participated in the Adopt-A-Family program, cut fleece to make blankets for the local warming shelter and helped with various events at the La Pine Senior Center.  Ashlyn is a highly motived and dedicated young woman.  We are so proud of her and her many accomplishments.  We wish her great success and congratulations!    

 

The 2018 Scholarship winner is Kaylie Simmons.  Kaylie is planning to become an Electrical Lineman.

 

The 2017 Scholarship winner is Zoie Town.  Zoie plans to major in Pediatric Nursing.

 

The 2016 Scholarship winner is Autume Beaver. 

 

The 2015 Scholarship winner is McKenna Boen.  McKenna plans to major in English Eduction.

 

The 2014 Scholarship winner was Kaitlynn Newcomb.  She is enrolled at the University of Oregon and is majoring in physics. She also plans on doing post graduate work.  Kaitlynn was ranked third in her class with a 3.91 GPA.  She was also one of fifty University of Oregon Presidential Scholars along with President's Education award for Outstanding Academic Excellence.   Kaitlynn has been involved in athletics, student council, National Honor Society, and the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Conference.  Along with these activities, she has accumulated over 530 hours of community service both in school and the community.  She was chosen from a well qualified and highly competitive group of applicants.  Congratulations Kaitlynn, make us proud!

The 2010 Scholarship was awarded to Erica Janssen and will be attending COCC. 

The 2009 Scholarship was awarded to Maria Ramirez and will be attending the Northwest Nazarene Universityin Napa, Idaho.
